
We spoke to juice fan Gary Green about his recent 5 day juice detox and his goal of losing fat fast.
“My body fat was at 12.9% when I started the 5 day juice detox. This was a short time after Christmas and I had not been training much and had been over-eating (like everyone does!). At the end of doing 5 days of juicing my body fat measured 8.9%, so I had dropped a huge 4% body fat in only 5 days! I also lost 6lbs going from 10 stone 7 lbs to 10 stone 1 lbs.
The other huge benefit was that I just felt a great deal better physically after just 5 days too. I’m a personal trainer so I can’t really get away with feeling sluggish but I definitely felt back to my best after just 5 days of juicing and exercising.
I got into juicing when I was 16 after reading Jason Vale’s book ‘Slim 4 Life‘. I didn’t read the book to lose weight, I didn’t need to lose any, but I read it because I’ve always had an interest in health, fitness and psychology, and a friend was raving about Jason so I thought it was worth a read. Needless to say, it was a fantastic read and really helped shape how I think about food.
After experimenting with juicing for a few months I found a few recipes I really liked, and I even started including ingredients like kale, spinach and beetroot into my juices that were excellent for me, and really helped with my exercise programme.

When I first went to high school I wasn’t in the best place health wise, I was overweight and pretty unfit. When I changed my attitude to food, got exercising and lost the weight I felt so much better and even started playing football for my local team.
However, despite this new lifestyle, all the exercise and changes to my diet I still did not have the body I wanted. It wasn’t until I started juicing that I could really achieve my health goals. I began just by changing my breakfast for a vegetable juice and within no time at all my fitness increased and I was looking leaner than ever, and finally my 6 pack began to show!
Now I continue to juice most mornings, and I usually make enough in the morning for two meals so I can ‘snack’ on one later. I know if I ever have a bad few weeks, I am only a few days of juicing away from getting right back on track.
For people who exercise, juicing is truly excellent. It’s a great way to get a high level of vitamins and minerals that are lost during exercise back into the system, and the great side effects are that you feel better and look better than ever.
As a personal trainer it’s also a tool I use with my clients looking to lose weight. It’s the safest way to quick and effective weight loss and as long as they read one of Jason’s books too, it stays off!
